These carved Halloween pumpkin celebrate the memory of lost souls. It always gave rise to many legends such as the legend of Jack O’ Lantern.
Many centuries ago, Celtic people prepared for winter by building bonfires in their fields. They believed evil spirits lurked in the shadows so they carved faces on large pumpkins and turnips and then hollowed out the inside so a candle could sit within it. The carved faces were believed to scare away the evil spirits whilst the candle lead the good spirits and travellers back to their homes.
